3_Exploring synergies across sectors
We are committed to join a dynamic partnership within BlueBio objectives. We have strong background in translating ultrasensitive molecular techniques and methods based on Raman technology for aquatic environment. The advantage of non-destructive, in situ analysis could turn in prompt decision making in various marine & aquaculture topics. Combined with complementary techniques and imaging methods, we are prepared to provide meaningful information on any molecular identification requirements, structural changes, toxins, algal bloom events, or other physical-chemical properties on a large variety of seafood or microorganisms. Experience gained in a previous FP7-MC co-funded project on seawater & seafood in Adriatic Sea region opened new synergistic approaches. Exploring aquaculture species by-products with advanced, non-destructive Raman technology, boosted for complementary confirmation techniques and thus, unravelled materials and compounds which could turn in added value secondary products for sea farming sector. We are particularly interested in transforming proteinaceous biogenic carbonates from seafood by-products (crabs, bivalve, sea urchins, etc) in multifunctional, smart biomaterials not only for farm feeding or nutraceuticals but also for new, smart biomolecular sensing or medical applications. Opportunities from invasive species could be identified and new, valuable compounds extracted and monitored as a function of climate conditions/ changes. Pigments identification, localization or tracking in aquatic chain is equally of interest.
