1_Exploring new bioresources
Our research group has wide experience in biorefinery concepts utilizing various side streams in microalgal cultivation. Our interest is in wastewater treatment and further use of the produced biomass in food and feed applications. We are interested in collaboration with projects focusing on utilization of aquatic biomass and sustainable and environmental friendly practices for future food and feed production. We can offer our expertise in algal cultivation in laboratory as well and small pilot scale with the volumes ranging from 10 mL to 5 00 L. We also have excellent facilities for extraction and analysis of biochemical compounds.
University of Helsinki is the leading university in Finland and among the top 100 universities in the world. Our research group is part of the Faculty of Biological and Environmental sciences and the Environment and Ecosystems research program. Our research group members have been involved in several international and national research projects related to basic and applied algology as well as biotechnology. Our ongoing project “Algae Factory” aims to investigate commercialization potential of wastewater grown algal biomass for several applications.
