I am Asistant Professor at University College Dublin (UCD, Ireland), researching in the area of extraction, purification and characterization of compounds from marine sources (seaweed and microalgae) and other agri-food by-products for functional food, nutraceutical and animal feed applications. I will be interested in joining a consortium interested in any of these research topics within this funding call.
I have a strong expertise in extracting, purifying and characterizing natural compounds (i.e. polysaccharides, proteins and phenols) with commercial value as food and feed ingredients, pharmaceuticals and cosmetics. The use of innovative technologies (ultrasound, microwave and others) and bioactivity-purification guided approaches for the isolation of functional molecules and the determination of structure-function relationships of the molecules for future health claims (anti-hypertensive, anti-oxidant, anti-cancer, anti-microbial and immunomodulatory) are also part of my expertise.
Within this area I published more than 50 publications (peer-reviewed articles and book chapters) and participated in more than 30 conferences, leading also European networks and COST actions focused on agri-food by-products utilization.
