Fermentation and mathematical modeling expertise in the fields of metabolism and sustainability can be important aspects in different projects.
Currently, we are active in a project where omega 3 fatty acids (DHA) are produced in a syntrophic process with the involvement of dinoflagellate Crypthecodinium cohnii. The project includes also optimization of fermentation in bioreactors along with our partner JSC "Biotehniskais centrs" (https://bioreactors.net/) - producer of lab-scale and industrial bioreactors.
Institute of Biotechnology and Microbiology at the University of Latvia is combining expertise in biotechnology with mathematical modeling and optimization of microbial metabolism and sustainability analysis.
University of Latvia, having faculties of Biology, Computing, Chemistry, Medicine form a great basis of interdisciplinary support during different projects.
