Our group is interested in cooperation, offering our expertize in biocatalysis, in enzyme identification and evolution, as well as the bioprocess development. We welcome any collaborations in projects dealing with the identification and isolation of functional (bioactive) molecules, the identification of novel biocatalysts or the enzymatic modification of natural products.
The University of Crete is a young public educational institution, established in 1973, committed to excellence in research and teaching. It now has 16 Departments, with over 16,000 undergraduates and 2500 postgraduate students . The international orientation of the University is reflected in its track record of collaborations with many of the leading research and educational institutions in Europe and worldwide as well as active promotion of mobility and exchange programmes.
Enzyme Technology Lab was recently (2018) established in the Department of Chemistry of the University of Crete. Our group has a significant experience in enzymology and biocatalysis, with research interests on enzyme identification, protein engineering, process development. The laboratory is well equipped for biochemical and molecular biology experiments (laminar flow, incubators, shakers, centrifuges, thermoshakers, thermocycler, chambers for agarose electrophoresis, SDS-PAGE and Western blot etc) as well as access to most analytic methods (UV-Vis photometer, flurometer, HPLC, GC, MS etc). Through the infrastructure available in the University we have access to NMR, XRD, XPS, FT-IR, CD, SEM, TEM and AFM.
